Multi-Connection Family IPTV Plans

Watch on 2 to 5 devices at the same time. The perfect solution for families, multi-room setups, and shared households across Ireland.

What Does Multi-Connection Mean?

A multi-connection IPTV plan allows multiple devices to stream simultaneously using a single subscription. With a standard single-connection plan, only one device can be active at any given time. If you try to start a second stream, the first will be disconnected. Multi-connection plans remove this limitation entirely, enabling two, three, four, or five independent streams to run at the same time without any interference or quality degradation.

Each connection operates completely independently. This means that one family member can be watching the Premier League on Sky Sports in the living room while another watches a cooking programme on Channel 4 in the kitchen, a third catches up on a BBC drama on their tablet in the bedroom, and a fourth browses the on-demand library on their phone. Every connection has full access to the entire channel lineup and VOD catalogue. There are no restrictions on which channels can be watched simultaneously, and each stream maintains its own independent quality level based on the device and local connection speed.

Multi-connection plans use the same login credentials across all devices. You do not need separate usernames or passwords for each connection. Simply install your preferred IPTV player application on each device, enter your login details, and each device connects independently. The system tracks the number of active streams in real-time and allows up to your purchased limit to be active simultaneously.

It is worth understanding that multi-connection refers to simultaneous active streams, not the total number of devices you can set up. You can install and configure the IPTV service on as many devices as you like. The connection limit only governs how many of those devices can be actively streaming at the same time. When a device stops streaming, that connection becomes available for another device to use instantly.

Who Benefits from Multi-Connection?

Real-world scenarios where multiple connections make all the difference.

Families

Parents watching one thing, kids another. Multi-connection means no more arguments over the remote. Each family member watches exactly what they want, when they want.

Multiple Rooms

Living room TV, bedroom TV, kitchen tablet, home office computer. Equip every room in your house with independent access to the full channel lineup.

Holiday Homes

If you have a second property, caravan, or holiday let, a multi-connection plan means both locations have full IPTV access under a single subscription.

Shared Households

Housemates and shared living situations benefit enormously. Split the cost between residents and everyone gets their own independent viewing experience.

The family use case is by far the most common reason Irish households choose a multi-connection plan. In a typical family of four, viewing habits diverge significantly. Parents might want to watch the evening news on BBC One or a documentary on Channel 4, while teenagers prefer entertainment channels like E4 or ITV2, and younger children gravitate towards CBeebies or Cartoon Network. Without multi-connection, these competing preferences mean someone always misses out. With a 4-connection plan, every family member gets their own independent viewing experience.

The multi-room scenario is equally popular. Many UK homes now have televisions in the living room, master bedroom, kitchen, and sometimes a home office or conservatory. With traditional Sky TV, adding multiscreen capability to watch in additional rooms costs an extra 14 GBP per month, and even then you are limited to just two simultaneous streams. Our multi-connection plans offer up to five simultaneous streams at a fraction of the cost of Sky's two-screen addon.

Holiday homes and second properties present another compelling use case. If you own a static caravan in Wales, a holiday cottage in Cornwall, or a buy-to-let property with furnished entertainment, a multi-connection plan means both your primary and secondary residences have full access without needing separate subscriptions. This also applies to UK expats who want to maintain IPTV access both at home and at a property abroad, subject to having adequate internet at both locations.

Bandwidth Requirements for Multiple Streams

A common concern when considering multi-connection IPTV is whether your broadband can handle multiple simultaneous streams. The good news is that modern Irish broadband connections are generally more than sufficient. A single HD stream requires approximately 8-10 Mbps of bandwidth, while a 4K stream needs around 25 Mbps. These figures mean that even with multiple streams running simultaneously, the total bandwidth requirement remains well within the capabilities of most Irish broadband packages.

For a household running two simultaneous HD streams, you need approximately 20 Mbps of available bandwidth. Three streams require around 30 Mbps, four streams around 40 Mbps, and five HD streams around 50 Mbps. If some streams are running in 4K, the per-stream requirement increases to approximately 25 Mbps. However, it is important to note that the IPTV service intelligently adapts stream quality based on available bandwidth, so temporary dips in speed will result in slightly lower resolution rather than buffering or disconnection.

According to Ofcom's most recent Connected Nations report, the average Irish broadband download speed now exceeds 80 Mbps, with full-fibre (FTTP) connections routinely delivering 100-900 Mbps. Even standard FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) connections typically provide 40-80 Mbps. This means that the vast majority of Irish households can comfortably support 3-5 simultaneous IPTV streams alongside normal internet usage such as web browsing, social media, and video calls.

For optimal performance with multiple streams, we recommend using a wired Ethernet connection for your primary viewing device (such as the living room Fire Stick or Smart TV) and ensuring your WiFi router is reasonably modern (WiFi 5 or WiFi 6 standard). Positioning the router centrally in your home and avoiding physical obstructions between the router and your streaming devices will also help maintain consistent performance across all connections.

Compared to Sky Multiscreen

Sky's Multiscreen subscription allows customers to watch Sky TV in additional rooms. It costs 14 GBP per month on top of your existing Sky subscription, and it only provides a second stream. You also need an additional Sky Mini box for each additional room, which may involve installation fees. Even with Multiscreen, you are limited to a maximum of two simultaneous streams across your household.

By comparison, our 2-connection plan starts at just $19.79 per month and requires no additional hardware beyond the devices you already own. Our 5-connection plan at $49.49 per month gives you more simultaneous streams than Sky even offers, with access to significantly more channels and content. When you factor in that Sky's base subscription itself costs 26-63 GBP per month before adding Multiscreen, the total cost difference is staggering.

Furthermore, Sky Multiscreen only works within a single property using their proprietary equipment. Our multi-connection plans work on any device, in any location, with any internet connection. There is no geographical restriction on where your connections are used, making our service far more flexible for modern households where family members may be watching in different locations.
