How many screens do you need?
- 2 screens: a couple, or a family with one main TV and a tablet for the kids.
- 3 screens: the sitting room, a bedroom and a phone – the most common choice for Irish families.
- 4 screens: a busy house with teenagers, or a home plus a holiday home.
- 5 screens: larger families, house shares, or several generations under one roof.
Remember that only screens playing at the same moment count. A phone that’s only used on the bus, or a TV in a spare room that’s rarely on, doesn’t need its own connection if it’s never in use while everyone else is watching. Count the busiest hour of a typical week – Sunday evening during the championship, say – and size the plan for that.
If you’re between two sizes, start smaller: you can move up at any time and only pay the difference.
Technical
How much broadband do you need?
An HD stream needs about 8 to 10 Mbps, a 4K stream about 25 Mbps. A fibre or cable connection, as most Irish homes now have, handles several streams and normal browsing without trouble. Wi-Fi is more often the bottleneck: connect the main TV with a cable and use 5 GHz Wi-Fi for the rest.

Wi-Fi tips for a busy house
Put the router somewhere central and high rather than in a press or behind the TV. Use the 5 GHz network for streaming devices close to the router and 2.4 GHz only for rooms far away. If an upstairs bedroom always buffers, a mesh Wi-Fi kit or a powerline adapter usually fixes it for less than the cost of a month of pay-TV. And on big match nights, pause large downloads and game updates – they compete with every stream in the house.

Setting up
Setting up several screens.
Every screen uses the same login, so setting up a second, third or fifth device takes the same five minutes as the first. Install the app, enter the details from your email and let the channel list load.
- Set up the main TV first, following the setup guide for your device.
- Repeat on each other device with the same server, username and password.
- Give each device its own favourites list, so the kids’ tablet opens on cartoons and the sitting room on the news.
- Use parental controls in IPTV Smarters or TiviMate to lock adult and late-night categories on children’s devices.
What happens if one screen too many is watching?
Nothing breaks. The extra stream simply won’t start, or the app shows a message that the connection limit has been reached. Stop one stream and the next one plays. If it keeps happening, you probably need one more connection – support can move you up and you only pay the difference.
Who the plan is for
A multi-screen plan is for your household and your own devices, including a holiday home and devices you take travelling. Keep your login to yourself: publishing or reselling it isn’t allowed, and a shared login quickly hits the connection limit anyway.

What counts as a connection?
A connection is one stream playing at a time. You can install the app on as many devices as you like – only the number watching at the same moment is limited by your plan.
Does every device need its own login?
No. All devices use the same login details. You enter them once on each TV, tablet or phone.
Can I use it in two homes?
Yes. The plan isn’t tied to an address. One screen can play at home and another at the holiday home, as long as the number of streams at once fits your plan.
How much broadband do several streams need?
Allow about 10 Mbps per HD stream and 25 Mbps per 4K stream. Three HD streams need about 30 Mbps plus some headroom.
